My top 2 tips for homeschooling in December

Hi Reader,

You know what I know? The fact that you have a hard time keeping up with everything on your to-do list before the Christmas season begins.

(I only know this about you because it's 💯 true for me, btw.)

Just keeping up with the homeschooling (when it’s NOT a holiday season) is a lot.

I've been homeschooling for nearly two decades now. 😱 😅 So today I wanted to share my top tips for homeschooling through the holidays.

They’re the tips I follow every year during the holidays, because they keep me sane:

  1. Put your normal school stuff aside.
  2. Do something else instead.

I’m pretty convinced that for homeschoolers, December should be the best month of our entire year.

We were made to wait in joyful hope, after all, and we have the unique opportunity to make our homeschools reflect that during this season.

That “something else” that I do with my family (and that thousands of families all over the world do in December) is RAR’s Christmas School.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • READY-MADE PLANS: Minimal prep–simply open the digital guide and follow the plan.
  • FOR ALL AGES: A Christmas program for everyone in the family, no matter their age. In December, simpler=better.
  • TO SIMPLIFY YOUR SEASON: Includes literature, art, history, nature study, copywork, grammar, and more.

Find out why thousands of families use Christmas School to make December a different kind of month in the homeschool year. A better one.

Join us here.

It’s the best time of year for whole-family learning. And Christmas School makes that simpler than ever.

xo, Sarah Mackenzie

P.S. If Christmas School is not a good fit for your family, we offer refunds within 24 hours of the digital delivery. We’re just that sure you’re gonna like what you see. 😘

Hey Reader, I don't know about you, but as we usher in 2026, I find myself longing for tranquility and peace even more than usual. If I were to ask you if your life ever felt tranquil, you would probably do one of two things: bust out laughing or look at me like I was from another planet. I get it, I really do. Which is why I’m thrilled to have the author of one of my absolute tippy-top recommended books with me today. Laura Vanderkam is a time management expert, mother of five, and the...

Hi Reader, It's a new year, and that means it's time for a challenge. Not for you you, though. (Don't you already have enough on your plate? 😆) No, I'm talking about a challenge for your kids. The Kids’ Read-Aloud Challenge is a simple way to kick off a great reading year. During the challenge, kids commit to reading aloud for at least 10 minutes a day on as many days as possible throughout the month. When they reach 25 days, they win a reward! You'll be amazed at how much their fluency...

Hi Reader, Last week, I watched my oldest daughter graduate with a Master’s in Theology and the Arts from the most prestigious university in Scotland. When I began homeschooling her way back in kindergarten, I had no idea we’d keep going through high school. I couldn't imagine that this five-year-old girl—a late reader, quite attached to her mama, rather nervous about new experiences—would grow up to travel the world. She'd live in Austria, Uganda, and Scotland… all before the age of 24....
